Halkidiki is a wonderful base for your holiday, including all of Northern Greece. You mustn’t miss a visit to Mount Athos, where a range of small boats can be picked up from Ouranoupoli, Ierisso and from Sithonia.

The tourist agencies within the area, offer cruises along the coast area of Mount Athos, so both men and women can enjoy the spectacular views of the monasteries.

Other famous sights in Eastern Halkidiki, include Ancient Stagira where Aristotelis was born.
The ancient town is situated near the sea, near the village of Olympia, which is known for its arts. A statue of the great philosopher stands in the beautiful park of Nea Stagira about 10 km from the beach. A visit to Kassandra as well as a trip in Greece is full of memories of the past.

Potidea with its ancient wall thought to be built around 600 B.C. when it was a settlement for the Corinthians. Nea Fokea has a ByzantineTower overlooking the sea, nearby is Kalithea where there are ruins of the Temple of Zeus.

An important site is the church of the Virgin Mary in Kalandra, which was built around the 7th century. This religious place is believed to be where the area of Ancient Mendi stands, the settlement of Eretrion which was built around 750 B.C.

The caves of Petralona, a little higher, are even more ancient. In 1960 a scull of a human being was found which is thought to be 250.000 – 750.000 years old.

The scientists believe it was the lost link between Homo Erectus and Homo Sapiens. There were also found the first known evidence of controlled use of fire. These caves are decorated with stalagmites and stalactites, dating back to 4th century.
